Teething & Weaning Classes

Lynda Leach > weaning & teething

Each weaning & teething class is presented by Lynda Leach and Verona Hall. Verona, who has two small children, is, like Lynda, a practising Midwife and a Lactation Consultant

The weaning element of the class will cover:

  • When to start giving solid foods to your baby
  • How to get your baby to use a spoon and cup
  • What type of foods to start with
  • How much food to offer
  • How often, during the day, to offer solid foods
  • How to modify the meals routine after the initial start of solid feeding
  • How to deal with possible allergic reactions
  • Which foods to avoid
  • Role of ready-prepared baby foods
  • Safety and hygiene issues

The teething element of the class will cover:

  • The teething timetable; the order in which the teeth emerge
  • The symptoms of teething
  • Things you can do to relieve the discomfort of teething
  • How to clean your baby’s new teeth
  • Using a dummy (pacifi er) and thumb sucking
  • When to start routine dental visits
  • What to do if a teething child seems unwell

The classes are being held on Saturdays so that women will be able to come on their own. This will enable them to concentrate on the class, chat with other women and generally have a nice break.

Although a detailed agenda has been established for the classes, women will be able to add their own issues to this agenda.

It is envisaged that many of the women attending the class will have already attended antenatal classes with Lynda, with Verona or at The Birth Company. The weaning and teething class will thus offer women an opportunity of again meeting women who shared their antenatal classes.

...helping in the transition to parenthood
